DVLA CEO appears before OSP over GH¢4m bribe allegation

The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has appeared before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to assist in investigations into an alleged GH¢4 million bribe offer.

Mr Kotey honoured the invitation following his public revelation that he rejected a GH¢4 million bribe allegedly offered to him to stop the rollout of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) system.

The policy, which aims to curb vehicle-related fraud and improve road safety, has been described by many as a major step towards modernising Ghana’s vehicle registration process.

According to Mr Kotey, certain influential figures had approached him with the offer, hoping to derail the initiative. His claim sparked widespread public interest, prompting the OSP to open a formal inquiry to verify the details and identify those behind the alleged bribery attempt.

After his session with investigators, Mr Kotey was seen leaving the OSP premises but declined to make any comments. He told reporters, “I will speak to the media at the appropriate time.”

In a brief statement, the OSP confirmed that it had engaged the DVLA boss to obtain further clarification on his allegations.

The office also assured the public that it would pursue the matter diligently to ensure accountability and transparency.
