The driver who caused the death of seven children at Matamallam-Ankaase in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region has been arrested.
The Ghana Report sources reveal the driver, Timothy Inyonyourn, is now in police custody, assisting with investigations.
He is likely to be processed for court in the coming days.
The children, all students, were knocked down by a saloon car with registration number GR 2392-22 as they walked home from school.
Six of the students died on the spot after the incident on Wednesday, 13 May 2022, while the seventh child died at the Krachi West Government Hospital due to injuries.
The Toyota Saloon car, which knocked them down, was said to have encountered a mechanical fault.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children closed from the Matamallam D/A School and were walking home when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into them.
Mr Felix Donkor, the Assemblyman of Ntewusuea Electoral Area, who reported the incident to the Kete Krachi Police, mentioned the dead as Jessica Wasah, Sandra Wasah and Sara Wasah, all four years; Mary Gludo, 12; Akosua Gludo, 13; and Rita Njalin, 15.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Krachi West Municipal Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
A mass burial will be held for the seven girls at Ankaase.
