A driver, identified as Dakurah Kofi, is in the grips of the police for aiding an armed robbery attack on his passengers.
He was arrested by the Formed Police Unit (FPU) at Banda-Nkwanta in the Savannah region for the armed robbery that took place on the Bole-Bamboi highway on March 16, 2024.
According to police sources, Kofi started making calls to some unknown persons while they were on their way from Wa to Techiman.
The report added that during the call, he was heard describing his vehicle number, colour, and clothes to the other party.
The passengers said they warned the driver to stop his calls but he refused until they reached Teselma, where the robbers attacked.
The FPU, however, succeeded in gunning down one of the robbers while many, escaped with gunshot wounds.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Kofi was an accomplice in the crime, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, he will be arraigned before the Bole District Magistrate court on charges of aiding and abetting crime.
On February 21, 2024, the driver, Etien Amewutor, was behind the steering wheel of a 2M Express bus from Accra to Kumasi when it was nearly attacked around Beraku.
Suspecting a robbery, he pressed an emergency button in the bus, which activated a video recorder on the bus and alerted the 2M Express call managers that the bus was being attacked.
Footage released by the company showed the driver reversing from the scene of the attack before speeding off to the nearest police station.
