Dr. Zakari Mumuni appointed First Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana

President John Mahama has appointed Dr. Zakari Mumuni as the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending confirmation by the Council of State.

With over 20 years of experience in central banking, macroeconomic policy, and financial market development, Dr. Mumuni is expected to bring strategic expertise to Ghana’s monetary policy and help stabilise the nation’s financial sector amid ongoing economic challenges.

Currently serving as the Director of the Financial Markets Department at the Bank of Ghana and a member of its Monetary Policy Committee, Dr. Mumuni has played a crucial role in shaping economic policies.

His past positions include Head of Modelling and Forecasting in the Research Department and Special Assistant to the Governor.

His deep expertise in macroeconomic forecasting, debt sustainability analysis, and monetary policy implementation makes him a strong candidate for the role.

Academically, Dr. Mumuni holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nottingham, an MPhil from the University of Ghana, and has published extensively on inflation targeting and monetary policy.

His appointment comes at a time of leadership transitions at the Bank of Ghana, following the departure of key figures in recent years.

Given Ghana’s complex economic landscape, Dr. Mumuni’s leadership is expected to bring stability and drive crucial monetary policy reforms, reinforcing the country’s financial resilience.
