Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has been appointed as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency.
Dr. Otokunor announced his appointment on Facebook on Saturday, March 1, 2025, expressing gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve in his government.
“I want to express my deepest heartfelt gratitude to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for this rare opportunity to serve in his government as the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency,” he wrote.
He pledged to use his expertise and experience to advance the president’s vision for the sector.
“I promise to commit every bit of my knowledge, skills, experience, and energy to this new role to deliver on his vision. And thanks to all the comrades, party folks, and well-wishers for the best wishes. Akpe kaka! ‘Ny3yi Waladon’!! Medaase!!” he added.
In his new role, Dr. Otokunor will oversee key agricultural and agribusiness projects, ensuring their successful implementation.
Dr. Otokunor is an agricultural economist and a chartered financial economist.
He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana and has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors.
He has served as a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and held various leadership roles within the NDC, including Deputy General Secretary and Director of Interparty and Civil Society Relations.
His past roles also include serving as Head of Research at the Communications Directorate at the Office of the President under the late President John Evans Atta Mills and as a Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA).
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Otokunor is expected to bring valuable insight and leadership to his new position.
