Dr. Okoe Boye appointed acting CEO of NHIA

Former Ledzokuku MP, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has been appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

Dr Okoe Boye replaces the current CEO of the Authority, Dr Lydia Dsane-Selby.

He assumes office on 3 May 2022.

In a letter, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, explained that the appointment was pursuant to Section 14 (1) of the National Health Insurance Act, 2012 (Act 852).

According to her, Dr Okoe Boye’s appointment is “pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board of the Authority given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

“Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days of receipt of this letter. Please accept the President’s best wishes,” portions of the letter dated 21 April 2022 read.

The 40-year-old medical doctor was elected into Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016 and subsequently defeated in the 2020 polls, after serving one term.

Dr Oko-Boye is a licensed medical practitioner with a BSC in Human Biology, Medicine and Surgery from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He also has a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) from Hamburg School of Applied Science and an A1 certificate in German from the Geothe Institute, Accra.

Dr Oko-Boye had his first job at the Ghana Health Service from 2009 to 2012. He then continued as a Medical Officer in the same Institution for four years.

Currently, he is a Physician at Lekma Hospital, a government health facility located at Teshie.
