Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has assured Ghanaians that the 9th Council of State will apply utmost integrity to their duty.

Speaking on Sunday, February 23, Madam Akuffo, a member of the recently constituted council, said they will not be mere followers but people who will offer sound advice to the president.

Referencing the Constitution, she added that the council is not to be partisan but an institution of highly resourced and objective people.

“Nobody should expect this Council of State to be a bunch of ‘YES’ people with a herd mentality just following along but, being serious and steady and critical and applying utmost integrity to what we will be doing,” she stated.

She further shared her disagreement with critics who have called for the abolishment of the council.

“In a country where we are more tickled by excitement and by sensation, people working in their little corner are not deemed to be exciting. There would be those who will, in my view, frequently say, ‘What’s the use of the Council of State? We haven’t even heard of them”.

“You don’t have to hear of them. All what is important is that they should be people who are giving sage advice to the person at the helm of affairs,” she stressed in an interview with TV3.
