Don’t elect someone who will embarrass Ghana – Atta Akyea to NPP delegates

Former Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to select a flagbearer who possesses a calm and appropriate temperament to guide the party.

During his address to party members in Mpraeso, located in the Eastern Region, Mr. Atta Akyea warned delegates against the selection of a candidate who might bring embarrassment to Ghana on the international stage.

“Let’s not make a mistake and elect someone who will insult world leaders when he travels to the United Nations,” he stated.

He additionally urged delegates to cast their votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he described as having “the temperament, maturity and statesmanship required to engage constructively with the international community.”

The NPP is set to conduct its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, to choose a flagbearer for the upcoming general elections. Dr. Bawumia is one of five candidates vying for the position.

The other candidates include former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyepong.
