Don’t campaign until we open nominations – NPP warns prospective aspirants
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has warned all prospective member of parliament aspirants not to campaign until the party has opened nominations.
According to him, the directive by the national council is to curtail influences by some people and project the works of the party.
“The overall interest of the party is more important; we need to focus on that for the moment until the party opens nominations, we don’t want to use anyone as a scapegoat, I entreat all prospective aspirants to adhere to this directive”
“ We know all their tricks, some will say we are not campaigning, we are just organizing cleanup exercise or organizing clean-up exercises, we know those tricks, so no one should try it, we don’t want to use people as example but if they force us, we will, the national council does not want to create unlevelled playing field for all, there are national and party activities lined up, we should all get ourselves involved”
“Members of Parliament are supposed to do their work as Members of Parliament, so that one there is no negotiation at all about it, but those who want to contest them must wait for the nominations to be opened for them to start campaigning.” he said.
He said, the party has planned to hold its Parliamentary primaries in areas where it has I69 sitting Members of Parliament (MP) on April 25, 2020.
He said, nomination fees for the aspiring MPs have been pegged at GH¢2000 and GH¢20,000 for filing fees whilst that of the presidential aspirants has been pegged at GH¢20,000 as nomination fee and GH¢200,000 as the filing fee.
