The Appointments Committee of Parliament has urged the public to desist from accessing the ministerial vetting room without an official invitation.

This caution follows the vetting of Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister-designate for Roads and Highways; Haruna Iddrisu, Minister-designate for Education; and others from Tuesday, January 21, 2025, to date, where numerous witnesses assembled in the vetting room without an invite.

The ongoing vetting proceeding, chaired by the First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, is in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.

The Appointments Committee in a statement issued on January 22 said “Parliament appreciates the interest generated within the public regarding proceedings of the Appointments Committee. This is evidenced by the high number of members of the public visiting Parliament to witness proceedings physically.

“Parliament puts premium on the security and safety of Members, staff and the general public. In order to ensure the security and safety of Members, staff and the general public, as well as enable the smooth operation of the Appointments Committee, Parliament has decided to limit physical access to the venue of proceedings”.

“The general public is accordingly informed that only persons with invitation cards or appropriate accreditation would be permitted to access the Committee room and the precincts of Parliament”.

The statement further encouraged the public to watch the proceedings live on various media platforms.

“Parliament has granted access to a number of Media Houses to broadcast the proceedings live, and therefore, encourage the public to avail themselves of that opportunity to witness the proceedings of the Appointment Committee,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Appointment Committee is scheduled to vet Ali Adolf G. John, Minister-designate for the Northern Region; John Kwadwo Gyapong, Minister-designate for the Oti Region; James Gunu, Minister-designate for the Volta Region; and Mrs Rita Akosua Awatey, Minister-designate for the Eastern Region today, Thursday, January 23, 2025.
