Domestic flight grounded for three hours

Domestic flights were grounded for three hours on Tuesday as workers took the centre stage to voice their concerns.

The workers of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority were protesting against the company over encroachment of their land.

According to them, the two official lands owned by the company have been taken over by individuals who are not part of the company.

The two parcels of land are located at Ashaley Botwe and La Tse Addo.

The Local Union and Professional Association’s President, who doubles as the spokesperson for the workers, William Amoako, said the individuals have forcefully taken over the land.

“This land is being encroached by people we don’t even know. There was one particular man [Clement Dzato] who has taken charge of this place.

“He goes about threatening the staff…getting access to our own facilities to repair the vital equipment that we use here, is even a challenge.

“They have gone to the extent of cutting some of the cables, which makes it difficult to work, so we are embarking on this operation to voice out our concerns,” he said in a Joynews interview monitored by theghanareport.com.

But barely 24 hours into the protest, Mr Amoako, said the Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, assured them that their land will be restored to them.

The workers are expected to have a roundtable meeting with the management of the authority to discuss the way forward for both parties.
