Domeabra residents chop off 17-year-old’s ear over botched robbery attempt

Some residents of Domeabra in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have chopped off the ear of a 17-year-old suspected robber following a failed robbery attempt.

Joel Nyarko was allegedly in the company of other accomplices in an attempt to rob a vehicle.

His accomplices managed to flee the scene but luck ran out on him and the residents apprehended him.

They beat him to a pulp and cut off his right ear in the process.

He was then carried in a wheelbarrow and dropped at the roadside of the community.

He was, however, saved when police officers from the Amanfrom District Police Command intervened before the angry residents lynched him.

The officers conveyed him to a nearby hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, a preliminary police investigation has revealed that the suspect lives at Dwenwoho but often visits his uncle at Domeabra.

The suspect told the police that he was rather a victim of the robbery by some unknown persons.

He claims his iPhone, dollar and cedi notes and other accessories were stolen.

In May 2024, a suspected thief identified as Prince, aka Baron De Young Don, was also beaten to a pulp for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets at Sakora, a community in Old Bibiani in the Western North region.

Baron De Young Don, allegedly stole a flat-screen TV, a standing fan, an iPhone, and money, amongst other gadgets.

Narrating the incident, an eyewitness, Kofi Gyabaah, said Baron De Young Don got all his hair shaved after being beaten to a pulp and the residents also poured hot water on him.

It took the intervention of the Assemblyman of the area, Daniel Kaakyire Addae, to save Baron De Young Don.

He was later sent to the police station.
