The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the ongoing district-level elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.
The electoral areas in the two regions are expected to vote on Thursday, December 21, 2023, the EC said in a statement signed and released by the Head of Public Affairs, Michael Boadu on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
According to the EC, the postponement was due to some technical challenges.
“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that due to several technical challenges, the district-level elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions have been rescheduled to Thursday, 21 December 2023”.
“We apologize for the inconveniences caused to residents of these electoral areas. We assure the residents of the affected areas that the District Level Elections will be held on Thursday, the 21st of December, 2023,” the EC statement said.
The district-level elections are taking place in 6,215 electoral areas across 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies except the Nkoranza North and South in the Bono East Region.
The Electoral Commission (EC) in an earlier statement said over 66,000 candidates have registered to contest the polls.
Out of the figure, 18,755 are vying to become assembly members, while 47,502 want to be Unit Committee members, totaling 66,257 candidates.
