Dismissed circuit court judge sues Chief Justice, Judicial Service

Source The Ghana Report

Dismissed Jasikan Circuit Court judge Alfred Kwabena Asiedu has filed a suit against the Judicial Service, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, and the Attorney General.

Mr Asiedu was sacked from the Judicial Service by the Chief Justice for abusing his power and sexually exploiting a woman who came to his court for a divorce case.

His dismissal was communicated in a letter written by Her Ladyship Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

In a response to the Judicial Service, he denied any wrongdoing, labelling the accusations as a product of the petitioner’s “illusioned imagination”.

The reliefs he seeks include a declaration that his removal from office is unlawful.

The former circuit court judge also wants a declaration that both the Disciplinary Committee and the Judicial Council “acted ultra vires” when they made a finding of malicious prosecution against him.

He added that the findings of the committee and council are patent errors of law on the record and should be quashed by the court’s supervisory powers.

Below is the suit.
