Felix Gyamfi, the Director-General of the Ghana National Service Authority (NSA), has given National Service Personnel a hopeful promise of an increase in their monthly allowances.

This announcement comes after growing concerns among service personnel, who have called for a raise due to the rising cost of living and inflation in the country.

Felix Gyamfi assured service personnel that discussions with the government are already underway to adjust the current allowance of GHC715 to a more sustainable figure.

He acknowledged that the current amount is inadequate to meet the financial needs of the service personnel, especially considering the ongoing economic challenges.

“We understand the difficulties that service personnel face with the current allowance. The government is actively working on a solution, and we are optimistic that there will be an increase to a more sustainable amount that can provide some relief,” Gyamfi explained.

In addition to addressing the financial concerns, Gyamfi also called on district managers to ensure the welfare of service personnel, particularly in securing proper accommodation for those posted in various districts.

He highlighted that the NSA must take proactive measures to provide both the security and comfort needed for service personnel during their time of service.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM’s Sunrise on April 2, Gyamfi also spoke about plans to introduce short military training for National Service personnel.

This initiative, first proposed by President John Mahama during his State of the Nation Address, aims to instill fitness and discipline among young people serving the country.

Gyamfi confirmed that discussions are ongoing, and the NSA hopes to begin implementing this initiative later this year.

President Mahama’s proposal for military training was designed to help build resilience, fitness, and discipline, equipping young people with valuable life skills during their service period.

Gyamfi emphasized that the military training program is still in the planning stages, but they are hopeful that it will soon become a reality, benefiting both the service personnel and the nation as a whole.

With the promise of an allowance increase and the potential introduction of military training, National Service personnel can look forward to positive changes that will not only help ease their financial burdens but also contribute to their personal development.
