Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer aspirant Dr. Arthur Kennedy has criticised the party’s process to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, describing it as “flawed and lacking transparency.”
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Big Issue on Saturday, January 17, Dr. Kennedy questioned the procedural integrity of the party’s decision.
“The process seems dubious. The announcement came late at night, and by the next morning, a statement had been issued. When exactly did the national executives meet to decide whether the Professor should be referred to the disciplinary committee?” he asked, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the internal review.
Dr. Kennedy also highlighted what he sees as inconsistencies in the party’s disciplinary approach, noting that other prominent figures, including Kennedy Agyapong and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, have previously criticised the party without facing similar consequences.
“We need to ask ourselves why some voices are targeted while others are not,” he said, warning that selective enforcement threatens the party’s credibility.
He defended Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments, arguing that the former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation raised fundamental issues about the party’s direction that deserve serious attention.
“If the Professor used strong words, it was to underline that the party is on the wrong path. The focus should be on the issues, not attacking his person,” Dr. Kennedy said.
The NPP had earlier announced that it had initiated expulsion proceedings against Prof. Frimpong-Boateng following his remarks on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, January 12, 2026. During the interview, the professor criticised the current state of the party, describing it as “fake” and distancing himself from membership, saying it no longer reflected the values he once associated with the NPP.
