Devastating Kantamanto fire leaves Akufo-Addo in grief

President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with thousands of victims of the devastating fire that destroyed large parts of Kantamanto Market in Accra.

The fire, which occurred on January 2, has left many traders traumatised, with their livelihoods and goods in ruins.

Delivering his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025, President Akufo-Addo extended his heartfelt sympathies to the traders who lost their investments.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto Market, which took place yesterday and has left many traders and their livelihoods in ruins. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hard-working
traders who have lost their goods and investments,” he noted.

President Akufo-Addo emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting the victims in their time of need.

The president also assured the public that the government would work closely with relevant agencies to ascertain the cause of the fire.

He further pledged that efforts would be made to provide the necessary support to the traders and help them rebuild.

“Government stands with you,” he affirmed, highlighting the importance of unity, compassion, and solidarity in times of crisis.

Additionally, the president called on the public to support the victims.

“Together, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time,” he added.
