Desist from attacking security officers – National Security Minister warns
National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah has cautioned the public against assaulting Ghana’s security officers.
Addressing a meeting with some traditional leaders in the Northern Region, Mr Kan-Dapaah said Ghanaians must appreciate the work these men and women do in keeping the country safe.
He stressed that the increasing attacks on personnel of the security agencies must cease going forward.
“This is the time Ghanaians must learn to appreciate and support the work of the security agencies, the soldiers, the police, the immigration officers, the prison officers, and all the institutions that are involved in providing security.
“Going forward, they are the people who provide the necessary services for us to feel secure. It shouldn’t happen that whatever the provocation, you should attack a police officer, a soldier, an immigration officer or an intelligence officer,” he said.
He had earlier warned the youth of Bole in the Savannah Region that an attack on any security personnel in the country is an attack on the state.
He urged the youth to resort to lawful ways of addressing their grievances rather than violence.
The minister further assured them that any security officer who misconducted themselves would be dealt with severely.
This comes after the youth of Bole clashed with some military personnel when they besieged the Bole Police Station to demand the release of some youth arrested by the military at a mining site in the Bole area.
The situation created confusion, resulting in two persons allegedly being beaten up by the military personnel.
Aziz Mohammed and Mahama Yakobu sustained head and arm injuries and were rushed to the Bole Hospital for treatment.
The youth have since vowed to resist any attempt to bring military personnel to the mining site in the area.
