Dep. Minister of Finance Abena Osei-Asare Insures Constituents

In a move that has been hailed as innovative and forward-thinking, Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare, has unveiled an insurance policy for her constituents in the Eastern Region.

The Good Life Insurance Policy will cover 665 individuals from various groups within the Atiwa East Constituency.

The initiative will be implemented in collaboration with Donewell Life and RINGFENCE Insurance and aims to provide life insurance coverage to the beneficiaries.

The insurance package will cover death, permanent disability, temporary disability, critical illness and medical expenses.

The beneficiaries include constituency executives, polling station executives, driver unions, tailors and dressmakers, hairdressers and beauticians, and auto mechanics.

At the programme launch on June 15, 2023, Mrs Osei-Asare, the Most Vocal Female MP In 2019, explained that she had heard from many of her constituents about their challenges, particularly regarding healthcare costs and unexpected emergencies.

As a result, she exhibited her motherly love to provide insurance coverage to all those in need, irrespective of political affiliations.

The launch marks the first phase, with plans to expand the programme and include additional groups in the future.

“It covers all 390 polling station executives for the rest of your four-year mandate. You stand to benefit GHC5,000 in any situation of death or temporal disability,” Mrs Osei-Asare stated.

“The 17 constituency executives will enjoy an insurance benefit of GHC10,000, all 89 GPRTU photos members, 25 drivers from Akyem Sekyere, 10 drivers from Ahankansu, PAPAYE Cooperation Drivers were 25, 10 drivers from Eyiresi and 25 drivers from Anyinam will also enjoy an insurance benefit of GHC5,000”.

The Deputy Minister continued: “So this policy is not for only NPP members but for all individuals in different professions”.

She expressed gratitude to the groups for their invaluable contributions to the development of the constituency and the nation.

She also “urged them to continue playing their part by fulfilling their tax obligations and promoting love, peace, and security in our constituency and the country as a whole”.

The response to Mrs Osei-Asare’s gesture has been overwhelmingly positive.

Many of her constituents have expressed gratitude for her willingness to act and help those in need.

The latest gesture adds to the tall list of developmental and well-being projects undertaken by Mrs Osei-Asare in her constituency.

From the first day, she gained the mandate to represent the people of Atiwa East; her priority had been providing jobs for her people, with initiatives that benefitted over 600 young people in permanent economic activities.

Through her Waterbrooke Foundation, she supported hundreds of brilliant but needy students even before the NPP government introduced the flagship Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.

Over 500 tertiary students have benefitted from financial support and scholarships for further studies under her watch.

Her tenure has also seen the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centre, classroom blocks and provision of learning materials such as computers to schools in her constituency.

Mrs Osei-Asare has spearheaded interventions via boreholes for water provision for over 30 communities and toilet facilities for many areas.

With the welfare of her people of great concern, she has improved health facilities for her constituents, including the construction of a 20-unit maternity block, a doctors’ flat, the donation of medical equipment and the renovation of a laboratory.
