The Information Minister-Designate, Fatimatu Abubakar, has expressed worry over the delay in approving new ministers.

According to her, the situation hinders her and other ministers from effectively carrying out their duties.

Ms Abubakar highlighted the backlog of unaddressed tasks, emphasizing that her limited capacity to function as a minister is causing significant operational difficulties.

“We have been waiting, and I think it’s a long wait, and it affects the government’s business because until about two weeks ago when we got letters to go as representatives, so many ministries like my place, where both the substantive nominations and deputy are new, it means you can’t do anything. The ministry is orphaned, and there are certain decisions that go beyond what administrators can make.

“They will need political direction or from the executives. A lot has been waiting on the table for long,” Fatimatu Abubakar said on Citi News.

It will be recalled that Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin halted consideration for ministers and deputy ministers of state, citing an interlocutory injunction filed at the Supreme Court by Rockson Dafeamekpor.

The South Dayi legislator wanted the apex court to declare that the president’s authority to appoint ministers and deputy ministers was unconstitutional without parliamentary approval.

However, on Wednesday, March 27, a five-member panel presided over by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo dismissed the injunction application because it was frivolous and simply an abuse of court processes.

The Speaker of Parliament has, however, announced that Parliament will reconvene on Friday, May 17.
