The decomposed body of a fisherman who has been identified as Sofo has been discovered after he drowned at Mumford in the Gomoa West District of the Central region.
Fisherfolks who were thrown into a state of mourning mounted a search for Sofo.
A body in a decomposing state was found later and was identified to be him by the trousers he wore on the day of the incident.
The body was immediately buried due to its state.
The Assembly Member for the area, Klu Wisdom Agbeko, stated that the fishermen, Kodzotsey Korbla Wemegah, 54, and Dzevenu Korshie Galley, 60, went fishing on Friday, May 24, 2024, and were expected to return early the next day.
However, they failed to return as usual, prompting a search for them.
They were subsequently found dead in the lagoon on Saturday, May 25.
Mr. Agbeko said that the body of Kodzotsey Wemegah was discovered in the late hours of Saturday, while the second body was retrieved the following morning.
Also, an 8-year-old boy, identified as Baba Yakubu, drowned in the river called Adjei at the Nurses’ Quarters near Domeabra in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
According to reports, the boy went to the river with his 12-year-old elder brother and friends on Sunday, May 19, 2024, to swim but did not return home.
However, on Monday, May 20, 2024, a relative named Moses Akpe said they received a distress call about a body floating in the river.
After retrieving the body with the help of some residents, they confirmed that it was the body of Baba Yakubu.
