The Ministry for the Interior has declared Tuesday, December 27, 2022, a public holiday.
A statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, said the day “has been declared a Public Holiday to mark Christmas Day”.
Each year, Christmas Day, a festive Christian holiday in many countries around the world, is set aside as a public holiday to celebrate the birth of Christ.
However, this year’s celebration falls on Sunday, and thus, the reason it has been moved to Tuesday.
The statement further called on Ghanaians to observe the day as a statutory public holiday throughout the country.
The day is noted for popular customs including exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.
