The Ministry for the Interior has declared Friday, December 2, 2022, a public holiday.
A statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, said the day “has been declared a Public Holiday to mark Farmers Day”.
The statement further called on Ghanaians to observe the day as a statutory public holiday throughout the country.
The first Friday of December has been set aside in Ghana to honour and recognise farmers and fisher folk in the various regions for their efforts in promoting agriculture.
In election year, the Farmers Day celebration is held on the first Friday of November, though the first Friday in December remains a Statutory Public Holiday.
This year’s celebration will be held in the Eastern Region.
As part of the programme outline, a National Agricultural Fair will commence from Tuesday, November 29, 2022, to Friday, December 2, 2022.
The last day of the National Agricultural Fair, which marks the first Friday of December, will be celebrated with a Grand Durbar and Awards Ceremony where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will confer national honours on best-performing farmers.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Accelerating Agricultural Development Through Value Addition.
