Dear Mr President, the message is clear!

The message is clear. Ghana recently witnessed one of its best general elections in history, at least since I grew up understanding the electoral process and its impact.

This election was full of lessons and a resounding message to the political class and aspiring politicians. It highlighted key concerns, such as:

• The impudence and pomposity with which some politicians carry themselves, are often accompanied by a sense of entitlement among their associates.

• The entrenched culture of nepotism and cronyism.

• The dismissive “Yenntsie obiaa” attitude, where public officials disregard the voices of ordinary Ghanaians.

• The unrestrained greed of the political class, prioritising self-enrichment over public service.

While physical infrastructure, such as roads and schools, remains important, it has become evident that anyone with access to state resources can build these.

What truly matters are the underlying issues of governance and respect for the people.

Mr President, I urge you to tackle these deep-seated issues. Uphold the rule of law, foster humility in leadership and adopt an open governance style that accommodates diverse views.

Build a culture of respect for the ordinary Ghanaian—one where public officials demonstrate dedication and hard work, not just in perception but in reality.

The electorate has sent a clear message, entrusting you with their overwhelming goodwill to bring about real change.

They have said “Enough is enough,” and it cannot be business as usual.

The ball is now in your court, Mr President, to accept this challenge and make Ghanaians proud.

I believe that if you meet these expectations, our increasingly discerning electorate will reward you and your party in future elections.

Make politics a tool for service and national development—one that inspires and uplifts.
God be with you, Mr President.

Alexander Benyin,
The Methodist Church Ghana.
