David Beckham reaches out to Lionel Messi over future Inter Miami deal
David Beckham is already putting in the groundwork on a future move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi, and has spoken to the Argentine about a transfer when his contract in Paris expires.
Messi left Barcelona this summer and had been tentatively linked with a move to Major League Soccer, but he eventually completed a move to PSG, where he signed a two-year contract with the option for a third.
A move to MLS remains in Messi‘s career plans before he retires, and according to The Mirror, he has been in touch with Beckham to discuss a move to Inter Miami when his contract expires in either 2023 or 2024.
Messi is even said to have been in Miami earlier this summer, where he bought no fewer than six penthouse apartments – perhaps in preparation for his future move.
Landing a big name in the near future is one of Beckham’s top priorities. The former Manchester United man has been keeping a close eye on the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, but it is thought that Messi is at the top of his wish list.
Club co-owner Jorge Mas is also focused on landing Messi and even confessed to the Miami Herald earlier this summer that he expects to see the Argentine wearing the Inter Miami shirt at some point down the line.
“I am optimistic Messi will play in an Inter Miami shirt because I think it will complete the legacy of the greatest player in our generation and will meet with the ambitions of the owners of Inter Miami to build a world-class team,” Mas said.
“David and I have been working really hard, we have aspirations of bringing the best players here and Messi is a generational player, arguably the best player of all time.”
Messi has committed to at least two years in Paris and could choose to trigger his third year if he remains happy, meaning he could be 37 by the time he is free for his next move.
