The Kasoa Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly stealing a flagpole belonging to the Kasoa Immigration Divisional Command.
The suspect, Yaw Francis, carried out his heist at midnight on Tuesday.
His actions were noticed by Immigration officers on duty, who promptly chased and apprehended him.
According to the Kasoa Central Sector Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), ACI Fati Yarah, this is one in a series of thefts at the office in recent times.
She said they had lost several items to the thieves in all the cases hence their alertness this time.
Yaw Francis is currently in police custody at the Kasoa Under Bridge Police Station, assisting with investigations.
Theft cases are not uncommon in Kasoa.
One of the suspects approached the mother of the baby when she was pregnant and selling sachet water by the roadside at Ofaakor.
She reportedly offered to support the mother financially until she delivered the baby.
Magdalene later introduced her to two other suspects.
Together, they rented an apartment at Kasoa Lamptey, a suburb of the Adam Nana Electoral Area for the mother.
To hide their real intentions, the three women continued to assist the young woman until she delivered at the Kasoa Polyclinic on July 10, 2024.
They, however, stole the newborn under the pretext that it had died.
They were subsequently arrested after the mother’s landlord became suspicious of their story and reported the matter to police.
