One of the suspects captured on video in a broad daylight robbery at Dansoman has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court.

In a video on social media, a woman identified as Bernice Naa Adjeley Quaye is seen holding a handbag that was forcibly snatched from her by two guys on a motorbike.

The woman briefly resisted the robbery by attempting to run away, but her attackers pursued her until she fell. And as she hung onto the bag, the attacker appeared to hack at her hands with an object and managed to snatch it, and ran to his getaway motorbike manned by an accomplice.

The 58-year-old woman’s handbag contained two mobile phones and an amount of GH¢60.

The accused, Paul Addico, who is 26 years, has since been charged with robbery.

He was remanded with another who is said to have bought the victim’s phone.

Yaw Danso, a barber who allegedly bought one of the victim’s mobile phones at the cost of GH¢ 400.00, has also been charged for dishonestly receiving the item.

They both pleaded not guilty to the said charges.

Facts

The facts of the case presented to the court said on 22 May 2022; the victim was returning from church service at the International Christian Liberty Centre in Dansoman Exhibition when the unfortunate incident happened.

After church, she decided to visit her parents, who, per the facts, lived a few meters away. While walking to the house at about 3:40 pm, Addico, who was riding a Royal 125 motorbike, bypassed the complainant, went some distance ahead, and turned directly towards the complainant.

The prosecution said a pillion rider, an accomplice,  jumped down from the motorbike, attacked and snatched the complainant’s handbag containing one Samsung Galaxy A23 mobile phone valued at GH¢1,700 and a Nokia 101 mobile phone also valued at GH¢1,500, two notebooks, a pen, and GH¢60.00 cash.

Addico then waited for his accomplice, and after snatching the complainant’s bag, they sped off.

Luck, however, eluded them when a CCTV Camera captured their nefarious acts.

Per the facts, the accused, on the same day, sold the complainant’s Samsung A23 Galaxy mobile phone to Danso at Chorkor for GH¢400.

On 23 May, 2o22, at about 4:00 pm, personnel of the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID), supported by a team of police personnel from the Dansoman Division, undertook a special operation, and the accused persons were arrested.

The complainant’s Samsung mobile phone was retrieved from Danso, the second accused person.

Meanwhile, efforts are in place to arrest the third accomplice (pillion rider).
