Cynicism on social media is too much – Palmer-Buckle
There is a canker greater than corruption in Ghana, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most. Rev. Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle has said.
It is cynicism, he said, calling it “more insidious”.
In an address at a forum organised by the government on ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’, the respected clergy decried, “cynicism, distrust and the notorious Ghanaian ‘pull-him-down’ syndrome.”
Charles Palmer-Buckle expressed worry that cynicism had become “too deep-rooted in our present-day culture and especially in the political arena.”
But he reserved special mention for the ‘worse’ manifestation of cynicism, which he said is seen on social media.
The catholic leader said the propagation of cynicism on social media tends to “glamourise vice and advertise disvalues.”
He said cynicism among Ghanaians was “breeding seeds of low self-esteem, disaffection for our country and disaffection for the service to the nation.”
Charles Palmer-Buckle cried out for role models and “icons of nobility and civility” to be shown for the youth to inspire them.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast also faulted a common saying in Ghana.
“It is painful to hear people say that Ghana is not worth dying for.’
Palmer-Buckle said he had observed several cultures from his well-travelled life and has come to a conclusion, “I can stand here and say, there is no home like Ghana.”
In confessing his love for his country, the metropolitan archbishop said Ghana, nonetheless, needs “a certain cultural exorcism and spiritual deliverance.”
He called on churches to fast and pray for the country and also called on Ghanaians to commit to developing the country through love for values.
He gave his audience what he described as a parting five-point gift to help Ghanaians as the government strives to build a country that is self-reliant and prosperous.
- Think Ghana and thank God for Ghana every day
- Love Ghana and live for Ghana everywhere
- Pray for Ghana and protect Ghana everywhere
- Serve Ghana and save Ghana now
- Devote yourself to God and die a little for Ghana today.
This is the REAL Man of God 🙌…. Archbishop of Cape Coast, I’ll pray for your live long so that I can meet you one day.
Ghanaians do we want our country to be good, prosperous and be a paradise? Then we my stop being cynical. The good that we want is what should come out of our mouths. We should remember that the Tongue is A Creative Force so we should speak good things for Ghana. We should be patriotic.
An analogy, when you put a seed in the ground, it gets rotten before it germinates then grow into a beautiful shoot. Ghana is in its rotten state it WILL rise up.
Let’s use our mouths to speak good for Ghana. Think about it.
Profess good things for Ghana. Whatever we say from our mouths are creative.
