The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has renewed curfew hours imposed on eight communities in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region by an Executive Instrument (E.I.).
The communities – Drobo, Japekrom, Babianiha, Kwasibourkrom, Mpuasu, Basekrom, Kojokesekrom and Katakyiekrom – are expected to observe the curfew hours from 8 pm to 5 pm effective Thursday, 9 June 2002.
A statement issued and signed by the ministry said the government continued to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area for their effort to ensure peace in the area.
He urged them to use the established mechanisms for resolving all their conflicts and disputes.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement added.
Earlier on 18 October 2020, the minister imposed a curfew on Drobo, Japekrom, and six other communities in the Jaman South Municipal area.
This followed clashes, which resulted in the death of two and 14 injured people from gunshots.
Residents of the area said they were living in fear because of the renewed tension between Drobo and Japekrom.
Mr Dery issued a statement calling on the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
He emphasized that there was a total ban on all persons in the eight communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.
The statement added that any person found with any arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted.
