COVID-19: Deputy Trades minister goes into 14-day self-isolation

The Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, has begun a 14-day self-isolation over COVID-19 fears.

The move, according to the deputy minister follows days of ill health.

According to him, he will embark on the self-isolation in his home.

In an Instagram post announcing his decision, the deputy minister said the move was in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

“Over the past few days, I have not been feeling well, so from today July 23, 2020, I am taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self-isolation at home in compliance with COVID-19 protocols,” he announced in an Instagram post.

Some senior government officials, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have resorted to precautionary isolation measures to prevent a spread of the deadly virus.

President Akufo-Addo went into self-isolation on July 4, and only resumed work on July on July 20, after a member of his inner circles contracted the virus.

Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah also resumed work on July 24.

Recovered officials

Some government officials who contracted the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 have recovered.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh; and the Minister for Regional Integration, minister Dan Botwe, who were all admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC) have recovered from the virus.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo who also contracted the virus has recovered.

Two government officials, however, succumbed to the virus.

The two, CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John and the MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi, K.K. Sam died after they were admitted to the hospital.

As of July 24, 2020, Ghana had recorded 30,366 COVID-19 cases.

Out of this, 26,687 persons have either recovered or have been discharged. Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll still stands at 153.
