Court remands man over alleged workplace stabbing

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 51-year-old aluminium fabricator accused of stabbing a colleague who allegedly prevented him from stealing from their employer.

The accused, Bismarck Marfo, pleaded not guilty and has been denied bail twice due to the victim’s ongoing hospitalisation following surgery.

Presenting the facts, Police Chief Inspector Rosemond Anyane told the court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei Tawiah, that the complainant, Alfred Atiga, 30, is a private security officer with Fabrisco Builders Company Limited and a resident of Sowutuom.

She said Marfo is an aluminium fabricator with Ace Cladding Company Limited and resides in Accra Newtown. Ace Cladding, she explained, is a subcontractor of Fabrisco Builders, and both companies are engaged in the construction of an office complex for the Ghana Revenue Authority at Kanda.

According to the prosecution, on October 28, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., both men were on duty at the construction site when Atiga allegedly saw Marfo leaving with aluminium offcuts belonging to Fabrisco Builders.

Chief Inspector Anyane said Atiga confronted Marfo and instructed him to return the items. Still, the accused reportedly took offence and insisted on taking them away, leading to a heated exchange.

Although Marfo eventually returned the items, he allegedly armed himself with a sharp implement and attacked Atiga, stabbing him on the left side of the abdomen.

The court heard that Atiga also sustained slash wounds to his left hand while attempting to ward off another attack. As colleagues moved in to assist, Marfo fled but was pursued, arrested, and handed over to the police.

Chief Inspector Anyane stated that the complainant was rushed to the Emergency Unit of the 37 Military Hospital, where he was admitted and subsequently taken to the theatre for treatment. He is currently responding to treatment.

The prosecution further told the court that Marfo admitted to the offence in his cautioned statement, which was taken in the presence of an independent witness. After investigations, he was charged and arraigned before the court.
