The Accra Circuit Court has fined Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog, Ghc48,000 for comments he made about President Akufo-Addo on TV.

On January 9, 2021, Bulldog was part of the panelists that appeared on an entertainment program on United Television (UTV).

The artiste manager said that the President would not complete his second term if he did not pay lockup funds of customers of the defunct gold dealership company, Menzgold.

He later retracted his comments but was picked up by the NIB on Monday, January 11, 2020, and granted bail on Thursday, January 14, 2020.

Mr. Hanson was sued for offensive conduct to breaches of the peace.

He had earlier denied the charge and the Court admitted him to a former bail of GH¢ 70,000.

In his defense, the artiste manager cum entertainment critic said he never intended to threaten the President or breach the peace.

Rather, he said he wanted to appeal to the President’s conscience to help the customers of Menzgold.

He was however found guilty today, Tuesday, January 10, 2023, after two years of trial.

The court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah said failure to pay the Ghc48,000 will land Bulldog in prison for 40 days.

In her sentence, the judge was of the considered opinion Bulldog could not have intended to appeal to the conscience of the President due to the gravity of his statement.

The judge said the statement clearly threatened the President and was meant to incite people against the First Gentleman of the land.

“What he said could have serious security implications as it put the President in danger,” the judge said.
