Court clears NDC regional executive over sexual allegations

A Cape Coast Circuit Court has declared the former Central Region Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, innocent of sexual allegations levelled against him by his wife.

In 2022, a case of incest, among other charges, was brought against the regional executive by his wife, Mavis Abena Agyei.

However, a DNA test result has proven that Mr Dawood is not the biological father of Rita Akos Arhin, the daughter of Mavis Abena Agyei.

The wife accused the husband of forcing their supposed daughter to abort several times.

But the court after hearing the case for over two years said “At the close of prosecution, learned counsels for the accused persons raised submission of no case per Section 173 of Act 30/60”.

“They filed their submissions and after considering them with the evidence so far led, the submission of no case is upheld.

“Consequently, they are acquitted and discharged”.

Cases of sexual exploitation have been very prevalent in many societies.

Christian Abor, a 34-year-old ‘Kente’ (locally woven cloth) Weaver at Akatsi Deti New Town in the Akatsi South Municipality, was jailed in January 2024 for eight years in hard labour by a Sogakope Circuit Court for defiling a seven-year-old class one pupil.

The convict, during his appearance at the Sogakope Circuit Court, pleaded not guilty to the crime of defiling a child under 16 years and sodomy.
