Coronavirus: US ‘talk shows’ say goodbye to studio audience
Football games are being played in empty stadia. No cheers, no applause. The latest to suffer from audience silence is showbiz and talk shows, as coronavirus take a sprint across the world.
To help minimise the spread of the novel coronavirus, several ‘talk shows’ in the United States of America (US) have cancelled recording with live studio audiences.
Notable among them are ‘The Ellen show’, ‘The View’ and ‘Good Morning America.’
The latest to cancel recording with a live studio audience is the Daily Show, an American late-night talk and news satire television program.
The host of the show, Trevor Noah, on Thursday, temporarily said goodbye to his last studio audience with a song.
“It will be tough without an audience, you guys are the heart and soul of the show,” he stated.
In a song to wrap up Thursday’s show, he mentioned some things the studio audience did that made the show fun and why he would miss them.
The World Health Organization, on March 11, labelled the virus a global pandemic.
The Wendy Williams show days after cancelling the use of a live studio audience decided to halt the show altogether.
