The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Joseph Yileh Chireh, on Monday caused a stir in the law-making chamber when he coughed repeatedly while contributing to a debate on the floor.

The MPs, who are on high alert, want parliamentary sitting suspended in line with the President’s directive on the ban of large gatherings.

President Akufo-Addo during his second address on the disease placed an indefinite shut down on all schools across the country.

The directive was targeted at all basic schools, second cycle institutions and tertiary institutions in all 16 regions of the country.

He also banned all social gatherings including religious activities, funerals and wedding ceremonies. Funerals are only allowed when not more than 25 people will be in attendance.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, on Friday called for mass screening for all MPs, especially those who had travelled abroad recently.

This is despite measures instituted by Parliament to ensure the house does not record any case of coronavirus, formally known as COVID-19.

The Parliamentary Service has provided thermometers at vantage points in Parliament to check the temperature of MPs and visitors before entering the house.
