Coronavirus: Ghana records 17 recoveries

Seventeen people who initially tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have recovered.

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye, announced the figures at a press briefing on Tuesday.

According to Dr Aboagye, the 17 patients tested negative two consecutive times after weeks of treatment.

This means they have met the benchmark used to declare an infected person fully recovered.

“Currently, we have a definition of a recovered case. Those who are positive and have recorded two consecutive negatives, and that’s when we can say you are cured. Currently, we have 83 people in that category, but we have about 17 who have recorded double negatives. Obviously, clinically, they are cured.

He also stated that 66 people of the people who were infected with the virus have tested negative once and are awaiting their final test for them to be declared fit for discharge.

Two of Ghana’s 566 cases are also in critical condition.

Globally, 1,934,292 people have been infected with COVID-19 with a total of 120,438 deaths recorded.
