Coronavirus: 98-year-old woman recovers in Nigeria

There was an atmosphere of joy in Nigeria as a 98-year-old woman defeated the deadly coronavirus to regain her health.

The woman was managed at an isolation centre for weeks after contracting the disease. She recovered fully, although the majority of COVID-19 deaths around the globe are from the aged.

She is part of some 25 people who were discharged from the hospital after recording negative after treatment.

The Governor for Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed in a tweet about the development in a tweet on Wednesday.

“Today, we discharged a 98-year-old woman, our oldest #COVID19 patient in Lagos.”

As of Thursday, May 14, Nigeria had recorded 4,971 cases with 1,070 recoveries and 164 deaths.

The Governor, subsequently, advised the public to observe all anti-coronavirus guidelines.

“As our frontline health workers continue to sacrifice and push through, let us play our roles by following the public health guidelines, observing physical distancing and wearing our face masks,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Meanwhile, a medical doctor has indicated that the woman was in isolation at Eti-Osa Isolation Centre.

It follows a similar recovery recorded about a week ago about a 113-year-old woman who also beat the disease in Spain.

Spain has the second-highest number of coronavirus infections of 271,095 with 27,104 deaths, with Ms Branyas being one of the 310,259 recoveries as of Wednesday, May 14.
