Coronavirus: 28 courts ready to ‘lock down’ those who can’t lock down

Ghana’s two main economic centers, Accra and Kumasi, are under lockdown. Despite the generally high level of compliance, deviants exist.

And so do the courts.

The judicial service announced it has set aside 28 courts to deal with those finding it difficult to abide by lockdown rules.

The Chief Justice in a statement issued Monday said the courts are to help enforce the president’s orders.

President Nana Akufo-Addo listed at least 39 metropolitian, municipalities to observe a two-week lockdown announced last Friday.

Akufo-Addo imposes partial lockdown

The affected areas are in three regions – Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central regions.

The president’s directives are to discourage inter-city movement as Ghana recorded 152 cases of the dreaded coronavirus.

Exemptions have been made for some critical staff including construction workers, bankers and some categories of staff within the three arms of government.
