Coronavirus: 12 dead in a week, as Ghana’s cases surge to 13,203
Twelve people have died from coronavirus in Ghana within a week in which the country’s number of cases went from 12,193 confirmed cases on Monday to 13,203 on Friday.
Within the same period, the country recorded 1,010 cases, as concerns over social distancing and wearing of face masks increase.
Four more people died on Friday, as the country’s covid-19 mortality reached 70.. On Friday the Ghana Health Service recorded 274 new cases.
At least 222 patients recovered within a week, adding to more than 4,500 who had recovered from the disease, ever since the country recorded its first recovery on March 27. This was 15 days after the country recorded its first case
The government in its efforts to curb the spread of the virus gazetted Executive Instrument 164 on Monday.
E. I state that ‘any person who fails to comply with the mandatory wearing of nose masks shall be punished in accordance with Section 6 of Act 1012.’
Per Section 6 of Act 1012, “a person who fails to comply with the restrictions imposed under the Executive Instrument issued under subsection 1 of Section 2 commits an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than 1,000 penalty unit (Gh¢12,000) and not more than 5,000 penalty units (Gh¢ 60,000) or to a term of imprisonment not less than four years and not more than 10 years or to both.”
