The board of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) is assuring the general public and the investigative bodies of its preparedness to cooperate with authorities to ensure a smooth investigative process into the alleged conducts of some officials of the Authority.

The board’s response comes on the back of a directive by the president for the commencement of investigations into alleged acts of misconduct by head of the Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

The President’s directive came barely 24 hours after the airing of a documentary by investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, on how a company owned by the head of the Procurement Authority was selling off government contracts it had won through restrictive tender processes.

The PPA board, in a statement following the president’s directive has assured of its willingness to cooperate with the investigative bodies; The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

The board has also been explaining its role in the award of specific contracts.

“The role of the PPA board does not influence subsequent tender processes (which is competitive) conducted in accordance with Act 663,” a quote from the release reads.

The statement reads further “Neither does the board have control over the selection of contractors and suppliers for goods, works and services presented by procurement entities in applications for approval of single source and restricted tendering nor does it award contracts.”
