Chaos broke out at the ongoing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ejisu constituency over what some aspirants described as ballot stuffing.

In a video, the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, surrounded by reporters and supporters, is seen in an altercation with some police officers at a polling centre.

Kwame Baffoe’s wife, Portia Acheampong, is one of the nine aspirants contesting the party’s parliamentary slot for the upcoming Ejisu by-election.

Visibly angry, Mr Baffoe is heard accusing some party executives in the constituency of conspiring to help some aspirants win the election.

There have also been allegations of vote buying, double voting and some delegates attempting to take screenshots of their cast ballots.

Meanwhile, Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, said the party’s leadership is on the ground to address any issues that may arise.

A total of 1081 delegates will decide the fate of nine aspirants seeking to represent the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu Constituency.

The party is holding its parliamentary primary to choose a candidate after the demise of John Ampontuah Kumah, the former Member of Parliament for Ejisu.

There have been intense campaign activities within the week as aspirants engage delegates to seek their votes.

However, the party cautioned both aspirants and delegates to strictly adhere to the election guidelines and reiterated its call for them not to camp delegates.

The by-election is slated for April 30, 2024.
