Communication Minister orders audit of frequency authorisations

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has directed the acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to submit a full report on all frequency authorisations issued or renewed in the last 60 days.

The directive, issued in a memo on Wednesday, February 12, forms part of the government’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative, which aims to reclaim state resources that may have been allocated to private entities through improper means.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency, the Minister emphasized that this is the first phase of a broader audit of frequency authorisations to ensure proper oversight in the broadcasting sector.

“This marks the beginning of a complete review to ensure that state resources are managed in line with due process,” the memo stated.

The government intends to scrutinize whether the issuance and renewal of frequencies comply with legal and regulatory requirements, ensuring they serve the state’s best interests.

Officials have assured the public that further updates will be provided once the review is completed.
