Collation halted in Ahafo Ano as supporters destroy hundreds of pink sheets

Source The Ghana Report

Collation ended abruptly at the Ahafo Ano Constituency following the wanton destruction of ballot papers and pink sheets for tabulation of the general election results held on December 7.

A group of agitated crowds complained of delays and attacked the Electoral Commission (EC) officials at the constituency collation centre.

The angry youth broke the louvre blades of the building and hurled stones at the EC officials.

This adds to violence, gunshots, deaths, and other criminal acts associated with the polls.

This prompted authorities to call for the deployment of military personnel to the scene to escort the EC officials amidst warning shots.

The perpetrators proceeded to vandalise the thumb-printed ballot papers and pink sheets used to record the figures from different polling stations.

Consequently, the development has further delayed the transmission of the constituency results to the regional office for onward transfer to the national collation centre for the official declaration by the EC.
