Collapsed wall injures four including baby
Four persons, including a 6-month-old baby, have sustained injuries after the wall of a cemetery collapsed on them at Kasoa Zongo in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.
The incident happened on Monday, May 6, 2024, after the heavy rains in the morning.
The victims were taking shelter under a shade at the market centre near the cemetery when the weak wall collapsed, injuring them in the process.
Two out of the four, a 16-year-old boy and a 60-year-old woman who were severely injured, are receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
Meanwhile, the baby and his mother have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
In a similar vein, the rainfall on Monday morning left one person in critical condition after a tree fell on an SUV vehicle and a motorcycle at Cantonment, near the Italian Embassy in Ghana.
The heavy wind caused the tree to uproot, slamming into the front of the Toyota SUV with registration number GE- 685-14 and directly on the motor rider.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GHNFS) swiftly arrived at the scene.
Using chainsaws, they worked to lift the tree and removed the vehicles that were trapped beneath.
They also cleared the remaining debris from the road to ensure the free flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, the rain also damaged and brought down two billboards on the Korle Bu road.
Online videos also showed that the rains flooded the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area and the Mallam—Kaneshie Highway.
