Meanwhile, some angry residents at Gomoa Nyanyano have threatened to vote against the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Desmond De-Graft Kwasi Patioo for failing to fix the bridge which was part of his 2020 campaign promises.
They doubt the MP will muster the courage to come and campaign in the area for the 2024 election, over what some perceive as his monumental failings in stewardship.
According to the residents anytime it rained pupils found it difficult to cross the bridge to their various schools.
They are charging him to immediately have the bridge fixed to prevent another death.
In the same vein, on 24th February, it was reported that a nine-month-old pregnant woman died after an abandoned bridge collapsed at Twifo Mirekukrom in the Twifo Attimokwa District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the deceased was going for antenatal care when the incident occurred.
The bridge links Twifo Mirekukrom and surrounding villages to Twifo Attimokwa, the district capital.
That incident left residents who plied the abandoned bridge in fear as they wondered what could happen next.
Chief of Twifo Mirekukrom, Nana Mireku Ababia I, said the abandoned bridge had been a major problem for his people, who have made several complaints about it to the District Chief Executive for Twifo Attimokwa, Robert Agyeman Nyantakyi.
Unfortunately, the complaints have not been attended to.
