The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has denied owning the fuel reservoir that suffocated three technicians during maintenance works on Monday, October 9 at Effiduase in the Eastern Region.

The three technicians; Michael Ashie, Jonathan Kokroko, and Paul Ocloo were part of a five-technical team that was hired to maintain the reservoir situated on the premises of COCOBOD in the aforementioned region.

However, COCOBOD in a press release dated October 10, denied the allegation of owning the reservoir that suffocated the three gentlemen.

“The said fuel dump tank is owned, used, and managed by Produce Buying Company (PBC), a limited liability company that is neither a division nor subsidiary of COCOBOD. The exercise that the technicians were engaged to undertake has absolutely nothing to do with COCOBOD”.

COCOBOD further urged the media to be circumspect as the security services are investigating the matter to ascertain the exact circumstance that led to the death of the three technicians.

“Our preliminary investigations have further revealed that the relevant security and regulatory agencies are fully involved in the matter to ascertain the cause of the unfortunate incident and put in place measures to forestall future occurrences”.

“We wish to assure our media friends that our doors are always open for discussions on issues of this nature and all inquiries concerning the operation of Ghana’s cocoa sector”.

All the deceased have been deposited at the St. Joseph’s Hospital mortuary in Effiduase for preservation and autopsy.
