The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike following the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the new Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

This decision was reached by the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG during a meeting held on February 11, 2025, where they discussed grave concerns over the trend of appointing politically exposed individuals within the Civil Service and Local Government sectors.

Mr Botchway officially took office on February 12, 2025, which prompted CLOGSAG to declare a nationwide strike set to commence on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

In a press release issued on February 13, Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, remarked:

“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025.”

CLOGSAG urges all members to remain at home starting on the specified date until further notice.

This move highlights the association’s firm stance against the appointment of politically exposed persons to crucial roles in the Civil Service and Local Government, as they believe it compromises the integrity of these essential institutions.
