Citizen Biometric Cards Swept Away By Spilled Waters

Akosombo Dam Spillage That Caused Floods & Displaced Nearly 30,000 People

Following the spillage to ease the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam of excess water, an extensive catchment area flooded, forcing thousands of people to evacuate to temporary shelters.

However, not long after the tide had subsided would be another realization that could reverberate to the national level. It is feared that among the items lost in the floods are biometric identification cards mandatory for the conduct of official business.

The premonition that moved the Ghana Report to think aloud appears to be the reality of some disaster-affected persons. They have started blowing the alarm on their missing I.D. cards. Vital in the cocktail of cards is the Ghana Card which is central to the 2024 General Elections.

The Electoral Commission is the chief proponent of the use of the Ghana Card as the sole document for identification of the electorate’s eligibility to vote.  Some of the political parties have kicked against this condition, and it remains to be seen how the largest opposition party, the NDC, will react to the case of missing Ghana Cards in the Volta region the party’s political stronghold.

When the chirps are down, and things come home to roost, there and then the actual cost of the floodings may hit the nation hard in the face.

Affected communities are located close to water bodies and their open-air activities including farming are largely dependent on water. Many farms are rain-fed in the absence of dams.

Given the devastating impact of the spilled dam that has given the people more than what they need, your guess is as good as mine, and it is that the pluviophile now knows that too much of everything is bad.
