Cigarette butt sets wooden structures on fire at Winneba
A bushfire erupted at the Olympic Arena in Winneba after a discarded cigarette butt ignited dry vegetation, partially damaging wooden structures in the vicinity.
Firefighters from the Winneba Fire Station responded swiftly to the emergency, arriving promptly to extinguish the flames. Their quick action brought the fire under control within seven minutes, preventing widespread destruction.
While some vegetation and a wooden structure were partially burnt, several other nearby structures were spared due to the firefighters’ rapid intervention.
Preliminary investigations by fire officials identified the cause of the fire as the careless disposal of a cigarette butt.
In response, the Ghana National Fire Service has issued a caution to the public, urging responsible disposal of flammable materials, particularly during the dry season, to mitigate the risk of wildfires.
