CID Boss assures public of progress in Kusasi chief murder investigation

The Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, has revealed that the police are pursuing “very concrete leads” in connection with the murder of the Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, in Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at a media briefing on ongoing investigations into high-profile cases, COP Donkor urged the public to remain calm and assured them that the police are “on top of the situation.” She emphasized that the CID is making significant progress and is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The late chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, was gunned down by unknown assailants last month in Asawase. The gunmen, believed to have been riding motorbikes, reportedly approached the chief at close range and shot him before fleeing the scene.

The brazen killing has sparked fear and heightened security concerns within the community, especially among residents of Asawase and the Kusasi ethnic group in the Ashanti Region.

Until his death, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe served not only as the Kusasi Chief in the Ashanti Region but also held the title of Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, making him a respected figure in both traditional and community leadership circles

The Ghana Police Service has increased its presence in the area to maintain order and prevent any possible escalation. Investigators have begun piecing together witness accounts and surveillance data to aid in the capture of the suspects.

COP Donkor assured the public of a thorough and professional investigation and encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the police.
